Russian Justice Initiative, a non-profit, non-partisan, non-governmental organization, registered in the Netherlands with offices in Moscow and Ingushetia, Russia, seeks a full-time Grants and Finance Manager based in Moscow to assist the Executive Director with donor and financial management and reporting as well as general organizational development, and to provide additional administrative and structural support in overseeing the organization’s work in Moscow and the North and South Caucasus.

Russian Justice Initiative (RJI) is a groundbreaking initiative that utilizes domestic and international legal mechanisms to seek redress for human rights abuses committed in the North Caucasus. RJI provides free legal counsel to victims of human rights violations and their families. The organization’s lawyers and researchers investigate incidents of arbitrary detention, torture, enforced disappearances and extrajudicial executions and bring these cases to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in Strasbourg, France. To date RJI has won more than 80 cases before the ECHR.

The position is open to qualified women and men of any nationality. The ideal candidate should have an interest in non-profit management and development as well as a strong commitment to international justice and respect for human rights.

The responsibilities of the position include:

  • Assisting the Executive Director with all aspects of donor and external financial management, reporting and development on projects in the North and South Caucasus, including: drafting and preparing quarterly, half-yearly and yearly narrative and financial reports, budgets and funding proposals.•
  • Assisting the Executive Director with all aspects of internal organizational financial management, including: budgetary matters, overseeing timely and organized financial reporting, keeping track of organizational expenses, preparing for internal audits.
  • Assisting the Executive Director with various aspects of organizational management and oversight, including: funding development; human resources and staff development; website development; oversight of the organization’s compliance with Russian labor, migration and tax law; organizing and planning internal and external staff meetings and events.
  • Assisting with day-to-day administration and running of the organization’s Moscow office.

Qualifications/Attributes:

  • Highly ethical, organized and detail-oriented with strong interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong writer with clear and concise style; experience writing on the topic of human rights;
  • Capable of working independently towards internal and external deadlines with minimal supervision;
  • Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Experience or skills in website development are highly desirable;
  • At least one year of experience working in Russia or in the CIS;
  • At least one year of experience working in the field of development or administration of non-profits is highly desirable;
  • Native or near-native command of written English is essential, as well as advanced command of written and spoken Russian. Native or near-native Russian language skills are highly desirable.

Start-date for the position is 15 June 2010.
